The United Methodist Church shares a common history and heritage with other Methodist and Wesleyan bodies. The lives and ministries of John Wesley (1703–1791) and of his brother, Charles (1707–1788), mark the origin of their common roots.
The United Methodist Church, which began as a movement and a loose network of local societies with a mission, has grown into one of the most carefully organized and largest denominations in the world.

Mt. Tabor is also a part of the East Ohio Conference and the Tuscarawas District of the UMC.
In 1812, a circuit rider named Rev. William Mitchell preached in the area. Four Methodist families met in a home and later built a small log church in Osnaburg, OH. In 1859 the present site was purchased and in 1860 the church was constructed. The basic building was used until 1972 when it was replaced by the present sanctuary building.
